Apertron

If you managed to see my post about the design history of my website, and managed to read through all of the miles and miles of text that went along with it (If not, go back and check it out), then you most likely saw the iteration of BMGFX.net that featured a robotic mascot named “Apertron”. He was a little robot based off of a Transformers Movie figure named Spyshot (I think),  made to look like a Canon powershot camera.

He represents the apex of my skills as a 3D artist, which were very low. I’ve always said that I had a lot of luck when it came to 3D modeling, as I just kind of tried to do stuff whatever way possible instead of learning the proper methods. It is one of the few mediums where I would not recommend self teaching, as I most likely did everything the hard way. My photographic mind and skills probably aided me the most as I tried to make my renders look believable with lighting (I made a seamless backdrop and a 3 soft light setup in the render you see) as well as adding little effects like lens distortion to add aberrations  and noise so that it looked more like a photograph than just a render.

Cool Morning

Last week I went on a morning photo journey on the western side of the Hudson River, and at the earliest times, I focused on the Manhattan skyline as the sun was coming up behind it. This was one of the shots before the sun was fully out, but I gave it an almost-monotone look (save for the lights) and bleached it a bit for a bright high-contrast look. The “cool” look definitely fit, as it got colder and windier as it got brighter. I was at the northeastern tip of Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ when I made this photo. I actually took the pictures bracketed in preparation for HDR, but I ended up not even using the other exposures because I felt that what I had was dynamic enough.

Henrik Lundqvist – The Gameplan

Henrik Lundqvist - The Gameplan

Here is my first New York Rangers graphic this season, and that is ironic because the season is over! The one game I actually got to attend to take pictures was their second to last game; The heartbreaking double OT loss to the Caps. Getting pictures was a bit difficult this time due to people getting in my way, but I was able to accomplish some goals and get pictures of things that I wanted to get, which has led to this result.  I wanted to have an “All Alone” feel while not being a simple v3, so I wanted to visualize what could be going through Henrik Lundqvist’s head as he concentrated. Smooth moves, good position, and technical accuracy. So, to separate the main cut of Lundqvist, I gave the rest of the cuts a cloudy dream-like look.
