Dream – Zombies!

A daring escape from a zombie plagued city ends up showing both sides of war between the living and the undead.

Part 1

I was in a New York apartment with my brother, which was somewhat similar to the one we lived in when we were younger. There was a stairway leading down somewhere and a young girl came out of said stairway crying about something. She had a big cut on her arm and she was twitching. I asked her what was wrong and all she said was “sorry, I did it…I started it.” over and over again. She then collapsed on to the floor. Someone else was coming up the stairs now. As we were trying to see what was wrong with the little girl, we looked up and saw the body of a half decayed man. With a grunt out of his mouth he started to advance on my brother and I. We pulled out guns that we just happened to have and put two shots into the thing’s head, taking it out. We heard more steps coming from the stairway and both decided we needed to get out of there. We went to the side door and opened it. In a moment of surprise, another creature was right there waiting for us, waving its arms at us but moving pretty fast. We ran back to the front of the building and looked outside the window, where we saw people running up and down the streets in chaos. The creature was now coming at us, but with two shots to the head, we put it down. Just when we thought we were safe for the moment, the little girl rose up from the floor. With blood and green foam coming out of her eyes, she started running towards us. Triggers pulled, she was dead. An even louder noise began to come from the stairs, so I opened a window and we climbed down the front of the building to the sidewalk. People were running all over the place, but we headed east toward one of the main avenues.

Once we got to the main avenue, there weren’t as many people around. We kept on running up the sidewalk, eventually agreeing with one another that we needed to find a car. We began to search for a vehicle to steal, but at this point there was no one around us except for two random people who were running with us. Finally, we stumbled on an already running truck that had one of the doors open. When we got to the truck, which was an SUV of some sort, there was a big puddle of blood on the ground next to the open door. We jumped in and the people behind us begged us to let them in as well, so we did. We started to drive, going as fast as the vehicle could go. We continued north and made it out of the city, where we began to drive on a country type dirt road. As we progress, the road suddenly got really choppy and turned into a muddy path. It was certainly not the best place for mud, as the path started to go on an incline. We were still going very fast, so the truck started to slide all over the place. The hill we were on just kept on getting steeper and steeper until the point that it was going almost 90 degrees straight up. We stopped, and the truck was stuck.

We got out to look around, but the sound of jet planes caught our attention. In an instant, two fighter jets flew by at an amazing speed, and we could see an approaching projectile heading right for us. “It’s a bomb!” my brother yelled, and we began to run. We jumped off the side of the hill and rolled a bit before the shock wave of the explosion passed us. Unfortunately, the other two people with us did not react like we did and were consumed by the explosion. After the debris stopped falling and we regained our bearings, we started to survey the area.

We walked a bit and ended up arriving at a cave-like entrance going into the hill, which seemed to be part of a mountain of unknown size. We ran in, only to meet up with a group of people sitting around some kind of equipment crates. A woman approached me and grabbed onto my arm and started to lead me into a corridor. My brother followed along, but she turned around and said, “You, stay here” to my brother. I continued with the woman and we turned a corner and there was man who kind of reminds me of Morpheus from “The Matrix” standing ahead of us. He shook my hand and shows me around this big military complex, saying that our military has taken a big hit and that we were trying to gather up forces again. He told me that they have developed a security system that counters the zombie creatures.

They drilled holes into the mountain side that would lead the creatures into traps that would make them fall into these huge shredders. He shows me a video feed that displays the security system, as zombies fell into the shredder. Somehow, a group of zombie creatures managed to get through the shredder system and get into the complex. An alarm began to go off and people got up from their chairs and started to run around. Everyone was passing guns around to those who did not have any, and my brother rejoined us and threw a rifle to me. We gathered together at an entrance, and zombies began pouring out. In a barrage of fire, every creature that came in was stopped by a wall of bullets. The firing went on for a little bit, and then this chapter of the story was over. Things now entered into a time warp.

Part 2

Time rewound to the point where I was out on the sidewalk running, although this time around I was with a group of four people; two girls and two guys. My brother wasn’t there this time. We were all running, looking for a way to get out of the city, and we saw a guy driving a van that was empty. We quickly opened the doors and hopped in. He didn’t have a problem with what we did, so he continued to drive on. We drove up north to get out of the city, but at one point, the other people in the van said that they didn’t need me anymore. They then open my door, the driver pulls out a gun andshoots me in my side, and the rest of them throw me out of the car.

I rolled on the pavement, joining the chaos of people running for their lives. Police were shooting at everyone, bodies were on the ground, and was still on the ground trying to figure out what just happened. I got up and I started to walk up the street. I was kind of in a shell shocked state at this point, as all the sound around me was muffled and everything was moving in slow motion. All of a sudden, someone grabbed on to my arm and started to pull me into an alley. The shell shock finally went away, and the screams of the people around me entered my ears. It was my friend Anthony, and he started telling me that someone stole his car, but that he knew a way out of the city through an underground tunnel.

In order to get to the tunnel, we entered this huge hotel building, dodging people who were running around the place. We went downstairs to the basement and got to a dark hallway. He looked around to make sure the coast was clear, and opened up a little door that was hidden in the wall. He tpld me to dive in, so I did. Past the small door was a slide that went on for a short while and led to another small open gap in a wall. I crawled out of the wall and Anthony was not far behind me. We were now underground and there was a long tunnel ahead. When Anthony got out of the wall I started to run down the tunnel but he yelled “Wait! That’s not the right way!” I gave him a weird look but he just responds, sayingm “decoy.” He turned to his right and opened another small hidden door that led to another slide. We went down even further underground and got to a dimly lit room with a big metal door showing the only way to go, which Anthony said was the entrance to the tunnel he spoke of before. We opened the door, but what was on the other side was not what we expected. The underground passage was a huge space that had tall concrete columns going up high into darkness and metal catwalks were all over the place. The main downside was that the entire area was swarming with zombies.

This time around, the zombies were not the blood lusting creatures from before. These ones were organized and articulate. Instead of coming at us demanding our brains, they spoke to us, demanding us to join them. Among the crowd was Anthony’s girlfriend, who was the only notable one there. Realizing there was no way out, we agreed. Before darkness took me, all I heard was, “you won’t notice a thing”.

I woke up among the crowd, feeling quite as I did before I went out. Anthony was there too, and I asked him if he was ok. He said he was fine, but when I asked him if he felt anything when they put him down, he had no clue what I was talking about. After having a few brief words with some of the other undead, it was evident that the crossover to becoming a zombie was a new beginning, with all of the past erased. That was not the case with me, as I had full recollection of what happened to me. I searched my pocket and pulled out a gun, but a huge zombie guy came up to me and said “None of those work for us”. He pointed a gun at me and started pulling the trigger with no effect. I took the gun and looked at it, and it was fully loaded. I pointed the gun at the guy and shot him in the face, killing him. Everyone looked at me in shock and awe, and then laughter started to break out for some reason. After the laughter died down, there was some silence only to be followed by someone screaming “We’re under attack!”

The crowd started to move around to different posts, but I had no idea what was going on. Someone else yelled “They’ve sent another batch of scouts!” and at this point it seemed the zombies were much more developed than meets the eye, as they had computer surveillance systems in place and small robot sentry guards patrolling the area. I started to move to another section of the underground lair and came to a catwalk elevated over an area that went down into the dark depths of invisibility. In the darkness small red lights became visible. The brighter they became, the faster they moved. Then, four legged robots emerged from the darkness and started shooting lasers at all nearby zombies. One of the sentry bots came to my side and started blasting the scouts and took a few out, but a stray laser hit the sentry, knocking it out of commission. I picked up the arm of the sentry and began using the guns on it to shoot the scout robots. After eliminating the threat, I turned around and ran into a dark door way, but once I got in, the adventure was over.
