Dream – The Rescue

Late night exploration of a series of abandoned buildings leads to a life-threatening crisis, only to be further complicated by a mysterious series of events.

It all took place in what sort of reminded me of the section of Kennedy Boulevard in Jersey City, NJ where there is a small stretch of fairly large old-looking houses . There was a main drag, like Kennedy, but on the east side, there was a big hill going up. On this hill was this chain of very old looking building that shared the same architectural style yet each building had its own look that separated it from the other.

Things began at night; I was by myself at the top of the hill and I was looking at this weird set of buildings that looked very old even for the area it was in. At the point of the hill that I was on, the building closest to me was connected to the hill and I was easily able to gain access. Upon crawling through a window to the building, the age of the building really showed on the inside, where dust and dirt had accumulated in corners and debris lay on the floor. The surprising part was that unlike most abandoned places, this one was free of beer cans, chip bags, and bottles wrapped with brown paper bags. Most of the rooms on the floor were very bare. I began walking downstairs and heard a weird noise that blew along with the wind coming through the windows. Without warning, the stairs ahead of me going down began to fall. I turned around quickly, ran up the stairs, and tried to go back to the window I came in from. The noise I heard got much louder, and the floor started to shake. The wood floor began to screech and twist and then also started falling, leaving a hole that separated me from the window. The only way to go was up.

Upon reaching the roof of the building, I didn’t realize how high up I was. The only way to get away from the crisis at hand was to go to the next building. Luckily, the next building was close enough to me that it could be reached by jumping over a small gap. I jumped on to the next building, but there were no doors on the roof to get into the building. With still no way to get out, I looked onto the next building, which was too far away to jump over to. When I looked down at the rear end of the buildings, I could see that these two buildings were connected by large jagged pieces of rock. It looked like a mountain was growing out of the backs of the buildings. With no where else to go, I began to climb down the rock and across, then up to the next building. luckily, no rocks collapsed beneath my feet as the climbing went on, because the fall was guaranteed to be deadly.

The next roof was a lot more dangerous than the others. When I got up to it, it seemed like the whole building was made out of wood. When the wind blew, the entire frame of the building began to wave back and forth, twisting and turning with every pendulous swing. With the building bowing violently, I tried to keep my balance and looked at the next building, which was also moving with the wind. I got my timing down and jumped to the next building, and as that building was moving with the wind, jumped to the building after it. Finally, I was on top of a stable structure, and there seemed to be a way to get down from the chain of strange rooftops.

I looked down and there was a pole that went down all the way to the alley that separated the two buildings. I figured if I could slide down the pole, I would be able to get to the ground. I grabbed on to the pole, and began to slowly slide down. That’s when the odd noise I originally heard in the first building came back, and violent wind began to blow up the alley. The pole was shaking like crazy, and I clung on to it as hard as I could. The wind wasn’t letting up at all, so I began to inch down, but as I got lower the wind just got heavier and heavier. The wind forced me off the pole, and I began to drop. At that instant, the wind just stopped and I was going down. With a stroke of genius, I grabbed back onto the pole and slowed myself down a bit before I hit the ground. I got up, and began to walk out of the alley.

Even though it was very dark out the alley was pretty well lit, and I could see a door coming up to my right. The door was open a little bit. When I got up to it, the wind started to blow and the door began to move a little bit. It then swung open to reveal a room that was completely intact and looked like an old study dimly lit with small lamps, with gold trimmings on the ceiling, a fireplace active with bright flames, a large desk, a record player, large red leather seat, and some kind of small, thick poster board on the wall. After being opened, the door slammed shut and stayed in place. I walked up to the door, and turned the knob. As I opened the door, the room was no longer as I first viewed it. The gold trimmings were chipped and barely there any more. The fireplace was only full of ashes. The desk had fallen apart on one side and all of the drawers were missing. The leather seat had been torn up, with the cushions ripped out of them. The poster board was not there. The record player, as with the rest of the entire room, was covered with dust and debris. The only thing that stayed the same was that the room was still lit by the very low powered lamps on the walls. It was weird how power was still in the building. As I began to walk around in the room, the door shut behind me.

I continued to walk around the room looking at the ground to see if I could find anything interesting. When I walked deeper into the room, I found the poster board laying on the ground. It wasn’t a regular poster board though, as it seemed to be plugged into the wall. There looked like there was some writing on the board, but it had been faded away and scratched off the point where I couldn’t read anything. Examining the board, I noticed a little button on the side. When I pushed the button, light inside the board began to flicker and come alive, revealing the negative of a picture. The picture had two young girls on it. There was a slit in the top of the board, so I turned it over and shook the negative out. Once I took the negative, the lights began to flicker. I knew nothing good would come out of it, so while it was still visible, I ran to the door and opened it.

As I opened the door, it was now daytime out, and people were walking the streets. I still had the negative in my hand, and wanted to see if I could find out any information about them. I crossed the street, and saw an old man sitting on his front porch. I began talking to him, asking him about the set of buildings across from him. Immediately he seemed to snap and say “They need to tear that evil place down as soon as possible”. I asked him why and he began to tell me about the place. He said that the buildings were built by a wealthy German family long before he was born, but strange things only started to happen in the late 1940′s, when he was in his 20′s. He said that he had lived in the same house all of his life and he remembered clearly what happened at that place. Young girls began to disappear around town, and after time passed, there were reports of strange sounds being heard from the large chain of buildings. Police stormed the house and found bodies of 9 little girls, and arrested the man who was living in the houses at the time. In a room in one of the buildings, they found photo negatives of each girl they found, and published them in the local papers. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the man was in fact a member of the Nazi SS and had escaped from Germany after World War II. He was eventually put to death, but the buildings still left a dark taint on the area of the town. As expected, rumors began to circulate that the place was haunted and people avoided it at all costs. I asked the man if he remembered the little girls and he said yes. I showed him the negative I found and a cold gaze fell upon him. He immediately recognized one girl but did had never seen the other girl. It was in that moment where in my head, “I knew” that the last girl was still in one of those buildings, and that maybe the girl’s presence had something to do with the odd things that happened to me.

Flash forward to night time. I gathered a group of people to help me investigate the area. My two friends Rory and Vinnie, and a bunch of random volunteers joined me on my quest. As we approached the buildings, a few people already abandoned us to run away from the place. Rory and some people went one way, and that left Vinnie and myself to go the other way. We climbed up a hill that led to one of the middle buildings, and with no visible means of getting in, we continued to walk around to the back of the building. When we got to the rear, there was a whole mini street behind all of the buildings. There was a little gated park in the middle and a few light posts, most of which were non-functional. We continued to walk down the street, and at the end of it there was a light on down in the distance, at the first building, the one in which my adventure had started. I pointed it out and we began to walk towards it. Out of nowhere, a dark figure started running toward us. Vinnie and I stopped walking and started to step back a bit as it got closer and closer. When the figure finally emerged from the darkness, it was just Rory, and he was soaking wet. He had been left all alone by his group and was trying to find us. I told him that there is a light on down by the first building and he said that he knew. He said that he and the group went by that area, but strange things started to happen and everyone that was with him ran away leaving him by himself. When I told him we were going to check it out, he was reluctant at first but then finally came along.

As soon as we got anywhere near the door, wind began to blow really fast and an insane amount of rain immediately started to pour on to us. The wind was blowing us back away from the lit room, but we did our best to move forward. The wind stopped, but the rain continued. A transparent figured emerged through the walls of the building and could only be seen by the rain hitting it, and the figure began to move very fast around us. It started to glow, and then in an explosive flash the figure materialized into a decomposed man in a Nazi uniform. Trying to run away, I headed for the door that led to the room with the light on. But in an instant, the nazi “ghost” zoomed ahead of me and threw me what seemed like 50 feet back into the park. It was quite obvious that he didn’t want us to get into that room. I ran back to help the other guys who were trying to fight off the “ghost” hand to hand, and I told them to keep him busy while I tried to open the door. We knocked him to the ground and Rory and Vinnie jumped on him and tried to pin him down. It was now my chance. I ran to the door as fast as I could. Rory and Vinnie tried as hard as they could to hold him down, but he overpowered them and in a blast of energy, they were thrown into the air. By the time he was free, though, it was too late. I opened the door and an immense bright light flashed through the door. The nazi ghost began to turn all sorts of colors and then the ground began to rumble. A hole in the ground began to open and he was sucked in. After that happened the bright light in the door started to fade away. I started to walk through the door but another flash hit me and sent me flying back. This time is was a blue light, and a bright orb of light came out of the door and shot up into the sky like a shooting star. The door shut and the room’s light faded away. When I opened the door, it was just an empty room with dust and debris all over.
